Dmytro is only 22 years old. But he, like tens of thousands of young Ukrainians, defends his native land. The guy is a gunner of the 3rd separate assault brigade. In May, near Bakhmut, under enemy fire, he was seriously wounded - fragments of a shell were stuck in his body. One of them tore a nerve in his left leg. Dmytro could not move his limb - the muscles stopped obeying. So, after several hospitals, he ended up at the Dobrobut Medical Center, where he has got a chance for the second time in his life to take his first steps.
“When the peroneal nerve is damaged, the calf muscles don’t receive a signal and therefore cannot actively move. To restore mobility, it is necessary to sew the nerve. After that, it begins to "sprout", as the tail of a lizard grows - an average of 1 mm per day. That is, after such operations, the result is rarely noticeable immediately - it takes time and correct and intensive rehabilitation is very important, ”explains the surgeon of the Dobrobut Medical Center, orthopedic traumatologist Oksana Mironenko.
